£100k Grant Helps Build Perth Hydrotherapy Pool for Disability Support

We are thrilled to announce that our efforts to build a new hydrotherapy pool in Perth have been significantly boosted thanks to a generous £100,000 award from NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation. This funding will contribute towards the £600,000 cost of the pool, which will be a key feature of our £28 million Our Inclusive Community Project (OICP).

Why Hydrotherapy is Vital for Disability

Our new potential hydrotherapy pool will be designed to support individuals with neurological conditions and disabilities, providing tailored therapies to improve mobility, balance, and overall well-being. Hydrotherapy has been proven to enhance muscle strength, circulation, and mental health, making it an essential resource for the people we support in Perth.

This initiative is part of our broader plan to replace outdated facilities at Upper Springland, with a relocation to Bertha Park on the city's outskirts by 2027.

Community Support and Fundraising Efforts

Our fundraising campaign has gained the backing of Olympian swimmer Dan Wallace, who partnered with us in January to launch our Swim the Distance Challenge.

Shelley McCarthy, Chief Officer of NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation, highlighted the importance of this project, stating: “Projects like this are vital for the health and wellbeing of the Perth community. The foundation is passionate about supporting organisations like Capability Scotland in their mission to enhance the lives of those they support.”

Our Head of Fundraising and Communications, Ailsa Wallace, expressed her gratitude for the support: “This award is a crucial step towards making the hydrotherapy pool a reality. It will not only benefit those we support directly but also open opportunities for external groups, fostering inclusion and community connections.”

Project Features and Long-Term Impact

In addition to the hydrotherapy pool, Our Inclusive Community Project will provide:

  • 60 fully adapted studio flats with cutting-edge assistive technology.

  • A community hub with a sensory room, accessible gym, and meeting spaces.

  • A teaching kitchen for residents and community members.
